What Causes the Dreaded “Scratched Disc”?

scratch discThere comes a time in every gamer's life when we have to face the dreaded scratched disc error on one of our favorite games, which is exactly why I wrote this in depth Easy Backup Wizard review.

After the class-action suit filed against Microsoft for allegedly "knowing" about the Xbox 360 disc scratch problems, people assumed the problem was only affecting the Xbox, but they were wrong.

In fact, recent reports show that nearly 1 in 10 people have a few scratched discs sitting at home.

There are several ways that a disc can become scratched or damaged.

  • Games always get small scratches from taking them in and out of the package, but usually these don't cause any serious damage.
  • If the game has not been properly taken care of, the scratches could be much worse and deep to where it's no longer playable.
  • The last way to get a scratched disc is through what's known as "Laser Burn", or accidentally moving your gaming console when it's switched on.

The most ironic part about the whole scratched disc situation is that neither the game company or console manufacturer want to take the blame. So basically, the system you bought was defective from day 1, scratched your disc to the point it's no longer usable, and then tells you there's nothing they can do about it.

However, there IS something you can do about it.

Before I even dive into this, let me first explain that I never subscribe to the hype around any of these "super awesome" programs that are supposed to fix all of our problems, but this one caught my attention.

The idea of making backup 1:1 replica copies of my games has always interested me, but I just couldn't seem to find if it was actually legal to do or not, and I didn't want to risk getting in any trouble.

Turns out the process is completely legal because we're just making personal backup copies, only for use by ourselves. After researching for days and going through a bunch of software titles that didn't work, I finally came across a product called Easy Backup Wizard, and it was a whole different story.

Not only did the sales page look nice, but after I finally gave in and bought the program, the interface was perfect! If you've already purchased the software, and are looking for informational YouTube videos showing how to use it, make sure to check out our page dedicated to exactly that, and learn step by step.
